Hi, I’m Ben, and these are a few of my favorite things…
Math
I continue to learn and study math. I’ve previously competed in the MATHCOUNTS competition series at the state level, and am currently studying for the AMC.
History
When I’m not creating more videos, I’m usually reading nonfiction. (I’m making my way through Andrew Roberts’s Napoleon right now.)
Computers
I have a YouTube channel covering important math concepts from grades 9-12 in an easy-to-understand way. I focus on topics that I struggled with or saw others struggle with. Many of my videos are inspired by problems or topics I helped people understand during my tutoring sessions during lunch at school.
These videos try to present a unified curriculum, starting with Algebra 1 and continuing to Geometry and Algebra 2.
I also make videos to highlight aspects of math that don’t get a lot of attention in school, like number theory and probability. These are fascinating subjects in their own right, and I hope to show a little bit about why they’re magical.
I’m also a massive history nerd, so a few of my videos cover topics from history. These range from ideas and events that greatly influenced history to minor but unique situations or scenarios, all while seeking to entertain and inform.
I’m on my local First Robotics Challenge (FRC) team (Team 836, The RoboBees), where I program the robot for competitions and maintain our organization’s code structure, contributing to libraries that our sister teams and First Tech Challenge (Middle-school level) teams use. We use GitLab, and you can find my (public) contributions here.
I’m also interested in cybersecurity and forensics. I’m on my school’s cybersecurity team and we’ve participated in the CyberPatriot team and Cyberstart competitions. I also compete in other local capture-the-flag events.
And when I’m not competing, I’m pushing code to my Project Euler repository on GitHub, where I use both math and programming to solve math problems. You can check out my GitHub here, and try Project Euler for yourself here.
